A Meditation on the End...

line

***A disclaimer... even though these are technically my thoughts, I'm not sure how much I really believe... These thoughts just came to me one day as I was meditating. I was not Christian at the time I wrote this.***

I sometimes ponder why bad things happen, why does it seem that humanity is only getting worse? It is just something I ponder after I watch the news and hear another school shooting, another child killing... all the atrocities just get to me.

Now at some level I tell myself it is human nature, we must know bad so that we can appreciate the good... but why does it seem like the whole world is "going to hell in a handbasket" and fast! In the past you never heard all the stories about kids killing kids (I guess that's what gets to me most...)

So I ponder... why does it seem like we are on the verge of the fall of humanity? Every civilization must come to an end, and I get the feeling that ours is at that precipice. Why do we think that our civilization is different? It is part of the cycle, civilizations rise and fall... it is like the cycle of life... we are little organisms, fleas on the back of the Earth, and perhaps she is ready to rid herself of the pests we have become...

Recently someone sent me a forward more as an FYI than to to perputuate the story... but it was about an Athiest science professor belittling a Christian student, and then after the professor does the job, another Christian in turn gives the professor what for... even though it was meant to show how good God was, and that all the evil in the world was due to the absence of faith in GOD, etc... the message the second Christian gave to the professor stuck with me... It went something like this... Does heat exist? Yes... Does cold exist? No, cold is merely the absence of heat... Does light exsist? Yes... Does darkness exist? No, darkness is merely the absence of light. Does good exist? Yes... does evil exist? No, evil is the absence of good... I had no problem with this concept, obviously SOMETHING exists, but NOTHING is merely a word we have to describe the absence of SOMETHING...

So this led me to the thought that, yes... there is something missing in the World... the absence of this FAITH is what is leading to the end... The absence of a CONNECTION, a connection to God, and an absence of a connection to our fellow humans... we are disconnected as a society. I wish I could explain this better in words, as the thoughts are so clear in my mind... but it is a concept too vast for words... I guess a basic part of my faith is to attempt to reconnect, to feel as one with the universe... If everyone felt this connection, this oneness, they would not want to hurt each other. Remember, love thy neighbor as yourself.

So this led me to ponder why are we disconnected? What has caused this, the downfall of humanity? I recently meditated on this subject and recieved an interesting answer... so I thought I would share, this is really the reason for that long ramble you just read through... I feel as if the idea is not my own, it was given to me and I merely expanded on it to make it more understandable.

In order to feel like one with our fellow humans, we must first feel at one with the Divine, but humanity as a whole has lost this vital connection to the Divine, because humanity has sought to gain independence from Nature and God.

The first step in this was the mythical Prometheus stealing fire from the Gods... we saw fires in Nature, and sought to harness it for our own purposes, which began to lead us away from dependence on the Earth's cycles. But since THREE is such a signifigant number, and we always want to give people three chances, three strikes and you are out... God did give us two more chances.

The second step that further disconnected us was harnessing electricity. Once we had fire, it was not enough... we still had to depend on Nature too much, and fire proved risky and unreliable... we saw lightning in the sky and sought to harness that power for ourselves. So the second fire we stole from God was electricity. With electricity we could live anywhere, independent of Nature, independent from God's creation. We don't have to depend on the Sun or Moon for light, if it is too cold we have electric heating, if it is too hot we have electric air. Our greatest acheivement, TECHNOLOGY, is our downfall. We are down to our last chance.

So what is the third fire we seek to steal from God? The spark of life... yes, the last chance is coming close to being used up... we already have started Genetic Engineering, Cloning, Artificial Intelligence... when these sciences are perfected we will have won our independence from Nature... completely severed our connection with God. But at what cost?

It is almost too late to stop it from happening...

And that was the end of my revelation.
