What is Wicca?

This is simply what Wicca is to ME.

Other people may have slightly different ideas on the subject. However, if you think that I am in serious error, please email me.

Wicca is an Earth-based Religion. It is one of the many Neo-Pagan Religions that try to connect with the past. Wicca is not an ancient religion, but the ideas it is based on are. Wicca is a modern incarnation of ancient Goddess religions and the Witchcraft of the past. Wiccans call themselves Witches, but Witchcraft can be different than Wicca. The main difference is that Wiccans are more religious in their worship, and generally follow the Wiccan Rede and the Rule of Three. All Wiccans are Witches, but not all Witches are Wiccan.

Many Wiccans worship the Goddess as the Creator and acknowledge the God as her consort. I personally like to think of the Goddess and the God as equals, and that together they make up the energy that is The ALL or The ONE. Many also worship other Deities separately or as aspects of the Goddess and God, such as the Celtic, Greek, Roman, and Egyptian Godesses and Gods. There are as many different Traditions in Wicca as there are Denominations in Christianity.

Wiccans celebrate 8 Sabbats, which correspond with seasons, solstices, and equinoxes, and 13 Esbats, which correspond with full moons.

Wiccans are not Satanists. Wiccans do not worship the devil, and Wicca does not have an incarnation of absolute evil such as the Christian idea of Satan. Wiccans do not sacrifice animals or babies, because Wiccans honor life and nature. Wiccans do not have ritual orgies, or ride brooms, or [insert stereotypical rumor here].

Wicca is not scary or weird, it is just another religion. Wiccans look just like anybody else. Wiccans are doctors, nurses, teachers, business men and women, secretaries, etc. Wiccans are neighbors, coworkers, family. Wiccans are just people.
